What I didn't realize yet was that I was living the exact problem I'd eventually build a business around. During those galas, I was so busy holding the event together that I couldn't actually be at it — I couldn't make the introductions or build the relationships the event existed for in the first place, because I was the one running it from behind the curtain."
"The moment it clicked wasn't at work. It was at a friend's anniversary party, where I was a guest — not staff. And I found myself doing it anyway: checking on vendors, watching the clock, making sure things were on schedule. My husband had to remind me, more than once, that I wasn't there to work.
That's when I realized: there was no one at that party whose actual job was to let the hosts enjoy their own celebration. I'd been quietly filling that role for years, for free, at my own job. I decided to build a business around doing it on purpose, for people who needed it most.
The hardest part wasn't a single dramatic moment — it was learning to let go. I have what I'd call a servant heart, the kind that assumes you should be able to do everything yourself. Scaling this business meant confronting that head-on: I couldn't personally serve every couple alone, and building a team I trusted wasn't a compromise on care — it's the only reason we've been able to do this well for eight years and counting.
