A Wedding on the Family Farm: Inside Peyton & Devin’s Ocala Celebration

Some couples pick a venue because of the view. Peyton picked hers because of the oak trees she climbed as a kid.

Her grandparents’ farm in Ocala has been the center of her family for more than 40 years; every holiday, every summer break, every excuse to gather happened on that land. So when Peyton and Devin started planning their wedding, there was never really a question of where. The farm wasn’t a backdrop. It was already the story.

A Blank Canvas, On Purpose

Here’s the part people don’t think about when they picture a wedding on family land: a private estate doesn’t come with a single thing. No tables, no restrooms, no kitchen, no team who already knows where the power runs. Every piece of a wedding at a venue like a hotel or a barn is already built in. At Peyton’s grandparents’ farm, every piece had to be brought in and built from scratch.

That’s exactly why Peyton and Devin didn’t want a traditional seated reception. Instead, they built a “strolling reception”: food and bar stations scattered across the lawn, a mix of tables, chairs, and lounge furniture guests could settle into wherever they pleased, and a large white-and-wood checkered dance floor glowing under string lights strung through the live oaks. It felt less like a formal event and more like the biggest, most beautiful backyard party the farm had ever hosted, which, in a way, it was.

When the Generator Blew a Fuse Ten Minutes Before “I Do”

No wedding goes exactly to plan, and a private estate wedding tests that more than most. The first flower order arrived moldy; after making calls all over the United States, Mary with Floral Architecture was able to have replacements rush-shipped in from Miami with hours to spare. Then, right as the ceremony was about to start, a generator blew a fuse and half the lighting went dark.

None of their guests ever knew. Penny found a replacement and had it running before most guests noticed anything had happened at all. That’s the actual job, not avoiding every problem a farm wedding throws at you, but making sure the couple never has to be the one solving it.

The One Thing They’ll Remember Forever

Ask Peyton and Devin what mattered most about the day, and it’s not the dance floor or the lighting fix. It’s that everyone they loved; childhood friends, college friends, coworkers, family from every side, was in the same place at the same time, for the only time in their lives that will ever happen. Childhood friends met coworkers. College roommates met parents. That’s the thing a farm wedding, done right, actually protects: the space for that to happen without anyone worrying about logistics.

It just means you need a team who can build a full wedding into that blank canvas without you ever having to think about the generator.
